aeTotalMCP: After Effects MCP service

Universal MCP service for live Adobe After Effects automation: a Rust daemon, native AEGP bridge and guard panel with typed operations. Not public.

Client: IVG Design
aeTotalMCP: After Effects MCP service

aeTotalMCP: After Effects, driven by agents

What it is

A universal MCP service that lets AI agents and scripts operate a running copy of After Effects. It is independent of any one project, in a private repository, and not yet released.

What it does

A Rust daemon (`ae-mcpd`) exposes typed operations to MCP clients and talks to AE through a native AEGP bridge. A dockable guard panel inside AE shows connection state, queue and activity, and keeps a human in control of what an agent may do.

Features

  • Typed operation tools for projects, compositions, layers, properties, effects, masks, shapes, text, markers, rendering and more
  • Fixed, allow-listed script primitives instead of arbitrary script execution
  • Four permission modes, approval persistence and resume, retained request records, cancellation and an activity ledger
  • Reliable multi-step undo and redo, project-generation checks
  • Searchable indexes and resources for agents, and a hermetic release gate

Capabilities

Agent-driven building and editing of AE projects with a visible audit trail; live inspection of comps, layers and keyframes.

Compatibility

  • Adobe After Effects on macOS (native plug-in plus daemon); developed against AE SDK 25.6 and AE Beta
  • Any MCP client

Availability

Not released; private repository. Plugin 0.4.0 / daemon 0.1.0 (2026-09-13 changelog).

Under the hood

Rust daemon, C++ AEGP plug-in and panel, MCP catalog served by the daemon; grew out of the earlier ae-live-mcp prototype.
