macOS app that gives each Finder sidebar folder its own icon, from about 8,300 SF Symbols or your own SVG. Free, MIT, on Homebrew. Apple Silicon and Intel.
SidebarFavorites: custom Finder sidebar icons
A macOS app for people whose Finder sidebar is a column of identical grey folders. It gives each favorite its own icon.
Pick a folder, pick an icon, press Add. The favorite appears in the Finder sidebar with your icon: an SF Symbol by name, a quick pick, or your own SVG. Local folders, iCloud and Google Drive folders, mounted disks and network shares all work. It never restarts Finder without asking.
Make a long sidebar legible at a glance; organise work folders by project with distinct icons. Sidebar icons stay monochrome because macOS draws them as flat silhouettes.
Free, MIT licensed. Version 1.3.0 (2026-10-08), 14 MB signed and notarized DMG on GitHub Releases and Forge, or `brew install --cask sidebarfavorites` from the ivg-design tap.
Native macOS app (Swift) that registers favorites and compiles icons into asset catalogs the Finder sidebar understands.
