WebWatcher

macOS menu bar app that watches badges, counters and Gmail on pages you already use and notifies you when they change. Safari-based, Apple Silicon, MIT.

Client: IVG Design

WebWatcher

What it is

A macOS menu bar app that watches the badges, counters and inboxes you keep checking by hand and tells you the moment one changes.

What it does

Each watcher reads one element on a page that is open in Safari, on its own timer, and posts a notification when the value changes. A guided assistant (Page, Element, Confirm) walks you to the element, so you never write a selector. Gmail watchers track senders and unread counts.

Features

  • Watchers built from the page already open in Safari, with per-watcher check intervals (default 30 minutes)
  • Sold-out/waitlist style text and number watchers, plus Gmail sender and unread-count watchers (OAuth with PKCE, tokens in the macOS Keychain)
  • Native notifications, or optional delivery through Herald banners
  • Nothing leaves your Mac; checks run in the Safari session you are already signed into, nothing is proxied or logged

Capabilities

Community notification bells, product availability and prices, forum threads, inbox counters and specific senders.

Compatibility

  • macOS 13 Ventura or later; Apple Silicon (arm64) only
  • Needs Safari; Gmail features need a Google account authorisation

Availability

Free and open source (MIT with an attribution requirement per the existing summary). Version 1.10.11, 2026-10-05, DMG on GitHub Releases and Forge; Developer ID signed and notarized.

Under the hood

Native Swift menu bar app (Swift package) that reads page elements from Safari, with a separate web/ folder for the Forge site and an optional Herald integration.
