MetaWin Drill Race: Three-Drill Game in Rive

A three-drill race minigame for MetaWin, built in Rive with ViewModel controls, Luau-scripted debris particles and a React demo app.

Client: MetaWin

MetaWin / Drill Race / 2026

Three drills, one winner.

My role: Game animation, Rive interaction design and Luau scripting

Delivered: A three-drill race game in Rive with scripted particles, a React demo app and developer documentation

Tools: Rive (state machines, ViewModels, Luau scripting), React

The brief

MetaWin needed animation for the minigames on its online casino platform. Each piece had to work as a game asset that its developers drive from game logic. The drill race is a three-way race the game decides.

The build

The drill game races three drills downward. The game sets each drill's speed, depth, multiplier text and colors, and a single winning-drill value plays the matching winner sequence; a click on each drill fires its own trigger. Luau scripts draw the debris particles, the rock conveyor and the drill stroke colors. I delivered it with a React demo app and developer documentation.

The constraint

The drill game's scripted visuals disappeared in the production web runtime. The editor's Export for Runtime wrote the Luau scripts unsigned and kept deleted scripts as ghost assets, so the runtime rejected every script. I traced it, wrote it up as a bug report for Rive, and used Rive's hosted export, which signs the scripts, as the workaround.

The delivered experience

The recording shows a race, and the Rive file on this page is the current source.

Client feedback

"Working with Ilya is an excellent experience. Fast, reliable and high quality deliverables, always."
