Wunder Beast / State Farm / 2026
The interactive court and LED wall graphics for the State Farm WNBA All-Star 3-Point Challenge, rebuilt from my NBA All-Star system for a new game format and new screens.
My role: Motion design, Rive animation and live-event support
Delivered: New game states and court animations, pre-rendered for approval in After Effects and then built into the Rive file that ran the wall and the court floor, with handoff docs and on-call fixes through the contest
Tools: Rive (state machines, ViewModels, Luau scripting), After Effects, Adobe Illustrator
After the NBA All-Star Three-Point Contest, Wunder Beast brought me back for the WNBA All-Star version of the State Farm challenge. The new round needed a one-ball game format, a State Farm logo-shot animation, four end states, a "heating up" effect and the WNBA three-point line on the court graphics.
I designed the new states first as pre-rendered After Effects variants: court lines, the station pulses, the heating-up line and the logo shot. After review I replaced the draw-in court lines with a highlight sweep and cut down the pulse cycles. Once the animations were approved I built them into Rive, restructured the state machines with the development team and resized everything for the new screens: a 5760 x 1920 wall and a 3200 x 3200 court floor. The player cards switch automatically between regular players and celebrities, and the final celebrity roster and headshots went in a week before the event.
The roster kept changing up to the contest itself. Players were added and swapped in the last two days, so card fit, name binding and photos had to be fixed and pushed to production during live-event support, the last fixes on the morning of the contest.
The final Rive file ran the wall and the court for the contest on July 25, 2026. The approval renders and the event-day file are in the project archive.
