Work
A 4K ending sequence for a BelAir Films piece about music and dementia research: the camera pushes through a guitar's sound hole into a particle field of memories, brain scans and notation, built with Stardust in After Effects.
BelAir Films / Music and dementia research / 2022
My role: VFX and motion graphics
Delivered: A 39-second 4K ending sequence and a shorter 24-second cut
Tools: After Effects, Stardust (Superluminal)
BelAir Films needed an ending and logo reveal for three medical partners working with people who have dementia. The concept tied music to brain research around two lines, "What can music reveal about the brain?" and "A symphony of possibilities", with the camera moving into a classical guitar performance and through the sound hole into a sequence inspired by memory.
I took the live footage of the guitarists and turned the push through the sound hole into a transition into particles. Inside, a field of glowing particles carries floating memory images, brain scans and musical notation, then resolves back to live aerial footage of a building. The particle work is Stardust inside After Effects.
A 24-second 4K cut of the sequence is dated 20 April 2022, the day after the contract closed. The full 39-second 4K ending is on Vimeo as "Final Outro".
"Ilya is a true artist and professional. My concept was a little "out there" and not only did he get it immediately, he far surpassed my expectations. I would hire him again in a minute."
