Xavier University: Capital Campaign Closure Video Overlays

Xavier University / Capital campaign closure video / 2021

Overlays built to composite.

My role: Motion graphics and typographic animation

Delivered: About twenty QuickTime renders, most with an alpha channel: animated Magis cross corners, opening and closing quotes, a statistics build-in and fade-out, a word flipper, a crest in and out, an end transition and a drone ending shot (three versions)

Tools: After Effects

The brief

Xavier University was closing its capital campaign with a thank-you film. Their producer sent a storyboard (Capital Campaign Closure Video V1) and the campaign style guide, and asked for print graphics to be turned into motion that sits inside live footage. The storyboard called for Magis cross designs that animate subtly in the corners of the b-roll, and for single key phrases such as Impact, Generosity, Legacy, Together and For Others to appear over the footage and rotate from one word to the next.

The build

I animated the crosses, quotes, statistics, word flipper, crest and end transition as separate elements and rendered them with alpha so the client's editor could place them over their own footage. The delivery folder holds several revisions of the statistics build and the drone ending, with render dates from June 14 to June 18, 2021.

The delivered experience

I delivered the overlay elements, not the finished film; the university assembled and published the video. The published "Together. For Others. Thank You" video from Xavier University is linked from this entry.
