Work
A Lottie feature animation for ChalkCast's ed-tech video platform: a class is created, its link is shared by mail, SMS or calendar invite, and a teacher and four students start talking.
ChalkCast / Feature animation / 2021
My role: Motion design and Lottie animation
Delivered: One 1500×1500 Lottie scene, about 20 seconds at 30 fps, taken through version 6.1
Tools: After Effects, Lottie (Bodymovin export)
ChalkCast, an ed-tech startup whose video platform includes an education product for teachers and students, wanted animated graphics that brought its product features to life. The brief asked for screenshots or medium-fidelity wireframes of the product combined with animation.
The scene walks through the product in order: a Create button and a class name panel ("Study 101", with a "Biology" variant), a Share button that opens to mail, SMS and calendar icons, and then a teacher and four student avatars with speech bubbles. The file is organised around controller layers for the window, the share step and the talk icons, with a touch-click cursor driving the interactions. Before building the scene I tested button, liquid and shadow effects as separate Lottie exports, then took the scene through numbered versions between February 4 and 11, ending with a colour-corrected v6.1.
The final v6.1 JSON is the same file that was hosted on LottieFiles for the earlier mograph.life portfolio, with an SVG still of the scene used as its card image.
> Ilya is flexible, and very skilled in animation and effects. He was extremely responsive and transparent, and gave us time to provide feedback at critical points in the creative. He delivers a great product, and we enjoyed working with him on this project.
