The brief

Encamp makes environmental-compliance software. Its marketing team was looking for an interactive designer and animator to turn technical, complicated topics into clear storytelling for the website, email and social media, working alongside their marketing and graphic design staff. This piece explains how Encamp handles Tier II reporting.

The build

I laid out the infographic in Illustrator and animated it in After Effects inside a computer-screen frame. It moves through the Tier II Manager: a facility form with its steps (Basic Information, Regulatory, Products, Facility Contacts, State Information, Verify & Submit), a map of states grouped by reporting system (E-Plan, Tier2Submit or a state-specific system), submission to the SERC, LEPC and fire department, and finally report acceptance with fees paid. The interface screens are embedded in the Lottie as 24 images, so the file plays without any external assets. It went through four Lottie versions and a logo-intro test between October 25 and November 1.

The delivered experience

Version 4 of the Lottie, finished on November 1, 2021, is the file shown here. The MP4, ProRes and GIF renders of the same 29-second piece followed on November 11. In their review, Encamp said they would use it on the website, in ads and in the sales deck.
