The brief

Hammr is building a professional network where tradespeople keep digital portfolios and connect with each other. To announce a new feature in its mobile app, the team asked for a 15 to 20 second portrait video for Instagram that animated three app screens they supplied. The brief came with screen-by-screen animation directions, reference animations, a rough in-app prototype, and a request for a first version within a day.

The build

I laid out the three screens in Illustrator from the supplied feature icons, profile pictures, text rows and the Inter typeface, then animated them in After Effects. The first screen was pre-rendered on its own as a 10-second test before the full piece was assembled.

The delivered experience

The final render was ready on September 3, 2021, two days after kickoff, and runs 30 seconds at 1080×1350. It is also published on Vimeo as "Hammr Feature UI Animation".
