The brief

World of Haiku is a gamified cybersecurity training game set in a dystopian cyberpunk world. For its San Diego Comic-Con special edition, the team wanted their layered 2D key art rigged and animated, with subtle hair and arm movement, pulsing lights and particles, and turned into a looping video for the website landing page.

The build

Before animating, I walked the illustrator through how the artwork should be split into layers so it could be rigged, then adjusted the characters' proportions, positions and layer hierarchy for the rig. I pre-rendered the main character, the head and a body glow separately on November 6 and 7, assembled the full scene by November 11, and refined it through November 16.

The constraint

The loop had to be live before Comic-Con, and the brief set a November 19 deadline. The final scene render was ready on November 16.

The delivered experience

The 10-second loop ran on the company's website landing page, and it is also on Vimeo as "Welcome to the World of Haiku".
